šŸ‘» Are You Ghosting Businesses Without Realising?

July 10, 2026•2 min read

We've all heard the term "ghosting."

It usually crops up in the dating world—someone disappears, stops replying to messages and vanishes without a trace.

But here's the thing...

It's becoming just as common in business.

And if we're being honest, it's not a great look.

Now, don't get us wrong. If you've requested an instant online quote from ten different companies, nobody expects a detailed reply to every single one.

But if you've booked a discovery call, had a meeting, exchanged emails or spent time discussing your project with someone, a simple response goes a long way.

"We've decided to go in a different direction."

That's it.

Honestly, that's enough.

As business owners, we'd much rather hear that than wonder if you've fallen off the face of the earth!

The reality is, every proposal, every discovery call and every follow-up email takes time. And as we all know...

Time is money.

If you've decided not to go ahead, that's absolutely okay. Businesses hear "no" all the time.

What we don't love is spending weeks wondering whether to follow up again or assume you've changed your mind.

A little honesty goes a long way.

You don't need to write a five-paragraph explanation.

A quick message saying:

  • "We've decided not to go ahead."

  • "We've chosen another supplier."

  • "The timing isn't right for us."

  • "We've decided to keep it in-house."

...is more than enough.

Better still, if you're happy to share why, that feedback is incredibly valuable. It helps businesses improve, refine their services and better support future clients.

Here's why it matters...

Business is a surprisingly small world.

The people you meet today could become future clients, collaborators, suppliers or even employers tomorrow.

Leaving a conversation on a positive note—even if the answer is no—helps build relationships and leaves the door open for the future.

And let's be honest...

Wouldn't you rather receive a polite "no thanks" than no reply at all?

We certainly would.

The takeaway?

If someone has invested their time in getting to know you and your business, do them the courtesy of replying.

It only takes 30 seconds.

It gives them clarity.

It helps them move on.

And who knows... your paths might cross again one day.

Be remembered for your professionalism—not for disappearing without a trace. šŸ‘»
